SUBJECT: UPDATE ON THE CONGREGATION MEETING/ELECTION 2021

 

This is to update members of the Congregation about the approved guidelines and schedule for the forthcoming Congregation meeting/Election 2021:

1.                 The Election would hold on Tuesday May 25,  2021 simultaneously at Ekpo Convocation Arena for Nsukka Campus and at Moot Court, Faculty of Law for Enugu Campus.

2.                 All forms of campaign (electronic and physical) shall end by 11.59pm on Monday, 24th May, 2021. Please be warned as defaulters shall be sanctioned.

3.                 Accreditation of participants at the meeting would commence from 8.00am and end by 12.00noon.

4.                 Accreditation points have been arranged according to faculties, institutes and centres

5.                 By 8.30am, the Vice-Chancellor would call the meeting to order at Nsukka Campus and after his opening address call for nomination and appointment of a 9-man electoral body to conduct the election at Nsukka Campus

6.                 Similarly, by 8.30am, the Deputy Vice Chancellor UNEC would address congregants at the Moot Court and supervise the nomination and appointment of 5-man electoral body to conduct the election at Enugu Campus

7.                 For purposes of accreditation, members should present either letter of Appointment or Letter of  last Promotion and any of the following means of identification:

·        Driving License

·        National ID Card

·        Voter’s Card

·        International Passport

·        Digital Staff ID Card issued in collaboration with Access Bank

8.                 For avoidance of doubt, Identity cards other than those stipulated above in ‘5’ would not be recognized for accreditation.

9.                 Please note that only the official names of contestants shall appear in the ballot papers

10.            Members of the Electoral Board shall conduct the election and the Chairman shall announce the scores at the venues and thereafter forward the scores to the situation Room at ICT, Nsukka for collation.

11.            The Vice–Chancellor or his Representatives shall announce the final Results and declare winners.

12.            All election officials shall wear identification tags

13.            Each accredited voter shall be issued 2 ballot papers at time of voting-one for academic and the other for non-teaching-each to be dropped into appropriately designated boxes.  The voting shall be by secret ballot.

14.            For voting, voters would be required to tick the names of candidates of their choice.

15.            All contestants shall provide one Agent for each of the venues for the election. The names and contacts of the agents of each contestant must reach the Office of the Registrar not later that 12noon on Monday, 24th May, 2021.

16.            All agents must be in the election venue on the Election Day before 7.30am for identification and admission.

17.            The Congregation Meeting/Election shall be covered electronically and members are encouraged to observe the process through the following links:
